Towards the abolition of the Death Penalty

This series of debates and events commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth in Paris of Seán MacBride, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (1974). From the 1930s, Irishman Seán MacBride committed himself to the defence of Human Rights and became one of the earliest presidents of Amnesty International. The universal abolition of the death penalty has been one of Amnesty International's priorities since its foundation and remains one of the most important issues in the fight for human dignity.

This series is organised by the Centre Culturel Irlandais, the Centre de recherche sur les droits de l'homme et le droit humanitaire (CRDH) of the Université de Paris II and the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway.
