Following our final Saturday visit for the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (link), the Gyntiana theatre company will present an adaptation in French of one of the central chapters of Joyce’s masterpiece ‘Ulysses’ in CCI’s courtyard.

4 o’clock: The Sirens. Leopold Bloom is making his way through the roads of Dublin when he comes across his wife’s presumed lover, Blazes Boylan, for the third time. Boylan is meeting a certain Lenehan in the Ormond hotel before going to see Bloom’s wife. Afraid to act and afraid not to act, Bloom follows Boylan into the Ormond and observes him without being seen from the dining room. To hide himself further from Boylan, Bloom chooses to eat with another outcast, Richie Goulding, and writes a letter to Martha his pen pal and platonic lover. The sirens here are primarily represented by the barmaids, however it is the songs being sung in the bar by older men that come to torment Bloom as he traces his own failures in the lyrics.
