A bed to sleep in, a roof over one's head, these are basic needs. Ensuring that everyone has a sustainable place to call “home,” where they can rest and build their lives, is both an ethical and an economic necessity. CCI’s new exhibition features work by ten contemporary artists that explores the Irish context: delapidated or poorly constructed housing and an ongoing housing crisis are weighing heavily on a population known for its natural hospitality… to the point of giving momentum to far-right agitation. Sculpture, film, photography, cheeses cultivated from mould, doormats bearing political discussion-starters, references to Jonathan Swift’s "A Modest Proposal" - the great satirist’s response to overcrowding in Dublin’s 18th century tenements - but also proposals for innovative 21st-century housing that combines respect for the environment and its inhabitants.
