Cellist, singer and composer Lakiko forms a duo with pianist and composer Laurent Nicoud to create soundscapes that transcends clear genre boundaries. Performing together on international stages since 2021, they weave classical craftsmanship, free improvisation, and contemporary influences into an intense dialogue between cello, voice, and piano.
Born in Sarajevo in 1988, Lakiko studied at the University of the Arts Bremen and specialized at the Bern University of the Arts. Her solo project has taken her to renowned festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Cully Jazz Festival, and Jazz Festival Ljubljana. In 2023, she won first prize at the Creative Music Awards in Germany, and her debut album ‘What To Do, How To Live?’ was named one of the classical music surprises of the year by Swiss Radio and Television.Swiss pianist and composer Laurent Nicoud, born in Neuchâtel, moves effortlessly between jazz, classical, and improvised music. His debut album ‘Outline’, recorded in New York in 2020, received international acclaim in the jazz press. Since then, he has released two more albums under his own name. His musical language bridges modern jazz, oriental influences, and European classical traditions, combining technical virtuosity with expressive openness.Together, Lakiko and Laurent create poetic sonic spaces where fragile melodies meet eruptive improvisations, and intimate silences merge with powerful intensity. Their interplay unfolds like a conversation — at times whispering, at times breaking open, always pushing beyond boundaries.
This event is presented by the Centre culturel suisse. On tour, in conjunction with the Jazzycolors Festival organised by FICEP.
The CCI Chapel will also host the Irish Córas Trio on Monday 24 November as part of Jazzycolors.
