Join Franco-Irish artist David Ryan and the curator Katell Jaffrès for an exclusive tour of the current Palais de Tokyo exhibition Nothing at All, Idiorythmic Modes of Coexistence. This multi-media installation by David Ryan and French artist Jérôme Joy questions the reality of the world with the poetic licence that has characterised their approach since they first collaborated in the early 1980s. The artists’ mutual skepticism towards institutions and the established order was particularly influenced by the Irish political and economic context of the time; David Ryan went so far as to adopt his current name following Bobby Sands’ death. He has involved many Irish artisans in the creation of the Palais de Tokyo exhibition. The narrative of this latest project recounts the birth and life of the clover hunter, a character personified by Ryan who navigates between fiction and reality, traversing the visible and the invisible. Using actual events as the basis of their work, the artistic duo investigates forms of liberty – limitations and thresholds – and the pursuit of happiness with both delicacy and compassion.
