C’est la rentrée !

Centre Culturel Irlandais is delighted to participate in Ireland’s annual celebration of the arts on Friday 18 September. Culture Night 2020 is a lovely opportunity to combine the opening of CCI’s new exhibition La Place des Grands Abysses by Stephen Brandes with open studios and poetry readings by our artists in residence, a relaxed musical atmosphere in the courtyard and the chance to take part in The Live Drawing Project all evening!

The Live Drawing Project is a real-time digital journey bringing Ireland and France together to share in an interactive drawing session. CCI will videoproject drawings made by you, using your phone as a drawing pad. Draw with all the other participants in France and Ireland and watch your creations appearing live together! Special guest Tomm Moore (Cartoon Saloon co-founder and animator of Brendan of Kells) will be taking part together with Stephen Brandes and other artists. Our partner, the Embassy of France in Ireland will be simultaneously showcasing the live drawings on the wall of the National Gallery in Dublin. Great for adults and kids alike, do join us at CCI or from the comfort of your home.

5.30pm
Stephen Brandes will be in conversation with journalist and writer Karl Whitney whose books "Hidden City: Adventures and Explorations in Dublin" and "Hit Factories: A Journey Through the Industrial Cities of British Pop" explore social and popular history though travel writing.
Given the current travel restrictions for the artist, this conversation will take place via zoom and be screened live in our lecture room. Admission free.

6.30pm

- In response to the exhibition, the Poetry Jukebox will be inaugurated with his new selection of poems "Hungering"

- Live music in the courtyard: violinists Mairéad Hickey and Yoan Brakha will play a lovely mixture of baroque and classical works together with some Irish traditional music

8pm
Poetry reading by our poets in residence Annemarie Ní Churreaínn and Kimberly Campanello
