Pietro Paolo Bencini (c.1655- 1750) distinguished himself in Rome holding different posts as maestro di cappella, most notably at the “Cappella Giulia” of St Peter's. His Missa de Oliveria was originally intended for an ensemble of male voices and alternates tutti with solo passages. Beautiful harmonies, long-lined melodies and an engaging rhythmic pulse characterize the work, making it one of the most moving masses of the mid 18th century.
