We close our 2022 St Patrick’s Festival with a celebration of Eid Nowruz, the Persian New Year, coinciding with the March equinox. Described as ‘breaking new ground on the global musical landscape’ (Irish Music Magazine), Irish based four-piece Nava explores the relationship between the traditional musical cultures of Ireland and Iran. Iranian-born brothers Shahab Coohe on santoor and Shayan Coohe on percussion and the tar are joined by folk and bluegrass musicians, Niall Hughes, one of Ireland’s most versatile and creative bass players, and ever-popular banjo player Paddy Kiernan. Launching their third album Tooranj and premiering a new solo commission for the CCI while creating a unique and captivating tapestry of sound, they will treat listeners to a joyous exploration of the connection between two venerable musical cultures.
'Wherever the source of the music lies, the group manage to create a new home for it in the space created by their sensitive and dynamic playing.' (Songlines)
Navá is also giving a short concert earlier in the day as part of CCI's St Patrick's Family Day.
