Gaelic Football match

The diversity of Irish culture is an important dimension that the Centre Culturel Irlandais celebrates, and the flourishing of our national sports abroad attests to its variety and vibrancy. Visiting Paris for this first Centre Culturel Irlandais Gaelic Games match is Oxford University President?s Fifteen, which was founded in 1967 and revived in the mid 1990s.

Over the years the team has consisted of a core of Irish players with a complement of British, Australians, South Africans and Canadians. The club's current patron is the renowned Irish poet Mr Bernard O'Donoghue.

The home team is Paris Gaels, which was founded in 1994 and has over fifty active members. The club is the first affiliated GAA club in mainland Europe and is the major link for the many teams starting up in France. The Paris Gaels take part in overseas challenge matches, travelling back to Ireland as well as taking part in the European Gaelic Games competition, which Paris won in 2000.
