Tribute to Michel Déon

Considered to have been one of the most innovative French writers of the 20th century, the late Academician Michel Déon made Ireland his home for almost fifty years. Déon's 1973 novel set in the West of Ireland, Un taxi mauve received the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française and was turned into the celebrated eponymous film. Tonight, in the presence of the writer’s daughter Alice Déon, three specialists will discuss Michel Déon’s life and work and his very special relationship with Ireland: Professor Jane Conroy, Chair in French at NUI Galway, his close friend the author and historian Pierre Joannon, and Professor Cliona Ni Riordain (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3) who translated Déon’s work exploring the Irish nation's collective identity, Cavalier, passe ton chemin !, in 2016.
