For this Parisian launch of the 22nd edition of the Franco-Irish Literature Festival taking place in Dublin from 8 to 10 April 2022. the Centre Culturel Irlandais hosts a conversation with three noteworthy speakers on the themes of feminisms and taboos in both Ireland and France.
The founder of the first centre of feminist studies in Ireland, feminist researcher and activist Ailbhe Smyth, discusses these issues with Emmanuelle Josse, co-founder of the French magazine La Déferlante, and with writer and researcher Estelle Benazet Heugenhauser, the author of Bêcher son visage (2010).
Moderator: Jean-Philippe Imbert, Professor of Comparative Literature and Sexuality Studies at Dublin City University, Ireland.
At 20h30, following the conversation, a performance of expanded cinema and musical theatre brings to an end one of the CCI’s courtyard exhibitions celebrating 'Ulysses' And yes I said yes I will yes.
French composer Nicol Faer uses electric guitar waves and Joyce’s voice to evoke the heroes’ streams of consciousness; Italian visual artist Leo Pellegatta accompanies this with cinematic images that journey through inner worlds while conjuring up places associated with Joyce. They are joined this evening by Nigerian-Irish artist Osaro performing a short song-cycle that expresses a sensory experience of Ulysses.
