Born into a musical family in Armagh, Niall Vallely has established himself worldwide as one of Ireland’s most significant concertina players and composers. He has received commissions from television and radio stations (RTE LyricFM, BBC, TG4), orchestras and ensembles (RTE Concert Orchestra, Crash Ensemble, Boston Pops Orchestra, Vanbrugh Quartet…) and some of his works have become ‘standards’ in sessions across the globe. Currently in residence at the CCI (in partnership with Music Network), his playing of traditional and original tunes will fill the chapel, in the company of well-known singer-songwriter Karan Casey.

Eilís Lavelle
, fellow CCI resident (Harp Ireland), gets the evening off to a good start performing traditional harp music and will join Niall and Karan for a few tunes together to round off the concert.

“Niall Vallely’s technical mastery and genius for improvisation are matched by apparently inexhaustible creative reserves.” (The Irish Times)

“Casey’s voice is among the loveliest in folk music and she’s a wonderful interpreter of both contemporary and traditional material.”(Boston Globe)

Karan Casey is also special guest for our Gaulín Traditional Singers’ Club on Tuesday 14 October at 7.30pm.
