A formalist artist, Ciarán Lennon has played a significant role in the world of Irish art for over thirty years. This exhibition shows Lennon’s move towards a vertical stacking technique. Deeply influenced by the French movement 'Supports-Surfaces', American minimalism and Arte Povera, Lennon has replaced the traditional support of canvas with industrial materials (wire mesh, aluminium, plastic and acrylic sheeting). Lustrous acrylic pigments are applied to these materials and combined in unruly stacks that continue the artist’s investigation of art as a metaphor for living. A member of Aosdána, Ciarán Lennon represented Ireland at the Sao Paulo Biennale in 1993 and has been selected on many occasions for international exhibitions of contemporary Irish art.
