Language diversity is essential to human heritage. Approximately six thousand languages still exist throughout the world – the living embodiement of a plurality of cultures – but many are in danger of being lost. UNESCO’s Constitution includes the maintenance and perpetuation of language diversity as a basic principle. Within this context, the CCI is hosting a panel discussion focusing on the state of affairs regarding the minoritised Celtic languages of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Chaired by Joseph Simpson, a specialist of both Welsh and Irish, the participants in tonight’s discussion are: Fearghus O Conchúir dancer, choregrapher and Irish-speaker, Judith Musker-Turner Arts Council of Wales Portfolio Manager (Welsh Language, Climate Justice, Future Generations), and Peter Mackay, National Poet for Scotland, who writes primarily in Gaelic.
