The ambitious debut novel by Wendy Erskine, The Benefactors (Sceptre, 2025) is a polyphonic work about Belfast, social class, parenthood, and the consequences of sexual assault, all set against a political backdrop. These themes lie at the heart of a conversation with academic Jean-Philippe Imbert.
