Daniel O'Connell's legacy - 250 years on

Post date: Wednesday 19 Nov

2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel O'Connell (1775–1847), a major figure in Irish politics and a pioneer on issues of independence, Catholic emancipation, and non-violence in the 19th century. Beyond Ireland, O'Connell had close ties to France, residing in France at the end of the 18th century.

CCI’s online exhibition Daniel O’Connell’s legacy - 250 years on retraces the life and legacy of Daniel O’Connell. Richly illustrated with material and images drawn from the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the National Library of Ireland, the Institut de France, and the Centre Culturel Irlandais, the exhibition text was written by Dr. Laurent Collantonio and translated into English by Samuel Trainor.
