Christmas concert
The Voice Squad
The Voice Squad expertly melds two related but separate traditions, that of British harmony-singing and Northern Irish unaccompanied solo-singing. Tenors Fran McPhail, Phil Callery and bass Gerry Cullen take the traditional Irish repertoire and harmonise it in a generally British style, creating something new and absolutely wonderful. This, together with their own particular arrangements of good songs, is the source of their reputation as one of the most distinctive unaccompanied singing groups of recent times.
The Voice Squad has sung with the Chieftains, Sinéad O’Connor and Elvis Costello as well as performing in Croke Park for over 80,000 people.
Their concert in the chapel will get you into the Christmas spirit with a repertoire including traditional Christmas songs and carols… with mulled wine and mince pies beforehand.
“The Voice Squad delivers everything with a marvellous combination of power and tenderness that is bound to touch your heart." (All Music Guide)
“All three singers merge miraculously into a single, enchanting confluence.” (The Irish Times)
“Hair-raising harmony” (Eugene McEldowney)
Due to unforseen circumstances, Fran MacPhail is unable to travel to Paris. Highly regarded Donegal fiddler Tara Connaghan will join Gerry Cullen and Phil Callery for tonight's concert. For more information and tunes : http://breakingtunes.com/taraconnaghan
