Directed by Irish language activist Deaglán Ó Mocháin, this unusual film argues for a nuanced perspective on Ulster Scots, considered by some to be merely a dialect. Produced in 2010, The Hamely Tongue follows narrator Seimí MacAindreasa, a native Irish-speaker from Belfast. From meeting those who have been promoting the language for years to others who have recently become interested in the culture it encompasses, he brings us on a full journey through modern day Ulster Scots.
A short discussion will follow the screening.
