Nick Kelly, former frontman with The Fat Lady Sings and an award-winning solo musician, gets us into the mood with a live concert before presenting his uplifting debut film The Drummer and the Keeper which won Best Irish First Feature at last year’s Galway Film Fleadh. Drummer Gabriel (Dermot Murphy), recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder is forced to curb his erratic behaviour when his therapist changes his medication and insists he join a special football team. He is spectacularly upended by goalkeeper Christopher (Jacob McCarthy), a 17-year-old with Asperger’s Syndrome. Having taken violent revenge, Gabriel faces expulsion – and the prospect of being sectioned – unless he “makes friends” with Christopher…
