Russian composer Grigory Frid created this mono-opera in 1969, inspired by the poignant diary of a thirteen year-old girl. He has preserved the original text of The Diary in his libretto. Although everything is recounted from Anne Frank’s perspective, a variety of characters are brought to life in the narration. Vivid and insightful, this heartrending opera recreates the world of Anne in hiding, living in hope and fear, longing for normality for herself and her family. Diary entries reveal the enormous emotional pressure she was under, yet her powerful optimism and unbending will to live continue to inspire.
