Celebrating John McGahern

Known for his austere depictions of rural Ireland and its inhabitants, author John McGahern was considered by many as James Joyce’s “successor” as an Irish expatriate living in Paris, where he lived for a few years and wrote some of the letters that Frank Shovlin later selected for his book The Letters of John McGahern (2021).

The CCI invites Madeline McGahern, Frank Shovlin and Sylvie Mikowski to celebrate the publication of these letters together with the re-publication by Sabine Wespieser of McGahern’s famous novel Entre toutes les femmes (Amongst Women) in April 2022. Originally published in 1990, the novel traces the story of IRA veteran Michael Moran and his complicated family relations.
