For the second of two evenings devoted to the work of Claire Keegan, we present a staged reading of her unforgettable story of hope and heroism, Small Things Like These (2021). Directed by Ben Barnes, the entire story is peformed by actor Andrew Bennett (An Cailín Ciúin - The Quiet Girl) with original music composed and played by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eleanor McEvoy (A Woman’s Heart).

Nominated for the Booker Prize 2022, this deeply moving tale is set in a rural Irish town in the 1980s. As coal merchant Bill Furlong does his rounds in the run up to Christmas, he discovers a girl locked away in terrible conditions in the local convent. Unlike the silent majority, he decides to do something about it.
