This conference marks the installation in the courtyard of the Centre Culturel Irlandais of a monumental sculpture by Imogen Stuart to celebrate the heritage of Saint Colombanus (543-615). The sculpture was co-commissioned by the Columban Fathers, the Bishop’s Conference of Ireland and the Fondation Irlandaise with the help of the Friends of St Colomban.
Colombanus is considered to be one of the patron saints of Europe and his vision of a continent whose people are unified in peace remains as resonant today as in the 7th century. The conference will address the influence of the Saint as well the historical context of his life.
