Rencontre with Judith Mok
Best known as an internationally successful soprano and singing coach who lives in Dublin, Judith Mok was brought up in post-war Holland, the child of Holocaust survivors. Her upbringing was a happy one but impregnated with the ghosts of the past. It wasn’t until a telephone call in 2017 that she found out the truth about her relatives’ terrible fate in the camps. This discovery propelled her into the writing of The State of Dark (Lilliput Press) which became both an intimate memoir and passionately luminous tribute to her parents and grandparents. Tonight, she discusses her fascinating life story.
'If you read only one Irish book this year, let it be this superb and unique memoir.' Eilís Ní Dhuibhne/The Irish Times
