The CCI is pleased to host the premiere this evening of award-winning feature documentary You will die in prison.

This is the story of the terrifying mental torture, resilience and resistance experienced by French/Irish citizen Bernard Phelan, while held captive in Vakilabad Prison in Iran for 222 days in 2022 and 2023. Phelan tells the full story, describing how he was incarcerated in an area known as ‘Satan’s block’ - an area where those sentenced to death are taken for their last night before their group execution. Phelan glimpsed their shadows from his cell and heard their cries at nightfall. He tells of the judge who told him “you will die in prison”.

Following the screening, Bernard Phelan will discuss life after captivity and the current turbulence in Iran with author and journalist Lara Marlowe. Chair: Nora Hickey M’Sichili.
