Pascal Gallois is one of the most renowned and active bassoonists of our time. He has been a member of the Paris-based Ensemble Intercontemporain since 1981. Gallois has given world premieres or French first performances of numerous pivotal contemporary bassoon works, among them Karlheinz Stockhausen’s “In Freundschaft” and Luciano Berio’s “Sequenza XII” which was dedicated to Gallois. Composers such as György Kurtág, Olga Neuwirth, Philippe Fénelon, Brice Pauset, Toshio Hosokawa and Mark Andre have written pieces for him. A professor at the Musikhochschule Zurich since 2002, he is also the author of an instructional book for composers: The Technique of Bassoon Playing. For tonight’s concert, organised in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Exchange, he will play a programme of pieces by contemporary Irish composers.
