Old Ireland in Colour
In collaboration with Tourism Ireland, the CCI is delighted to present this selection of striking photographs from the best-selling book series Old Ireland in Colour. Published in Autumn 2020 by Merrion Press, the first of the three editions sold tens of thousands of copies, quickly becoming a publishing phenomenon. Working with archival images from museum and library collections, academics John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley have used new colourisation techniques and carried out painstaking contextual research into eye and hair colour, clothing and uniforms, traditions and folklore. From the upheaval of the revolutionary period to the simple beauty of rural scenes, these photographs brings to life Ireland’s 19th- and 20th-century history through landscapes, historical portraits and pictures of everyday life.
Exhibition organised with the support of the Galway Lorient twinning committee.
