Nuit européenne des musées 2024

The CCI is delighted to take part in the 20th edition of the nationwide "European Night of Museums" with late-night opening of our three exhibitions: "Project Space #3 Sports gaéliques", "Old Ireland in Colour" and "100 Years of the Games: Ireland's journey".

Throughout the first half of 2024, in the run-up to the Paris Olympics, the CCI's main exhibition room is transformed into an evolving space dedicated to experimental projects: installations, performances and conversations will follow one another over the weeks and months in order to explore the links between artistic and sporting expression. The third phase of the CCI's Project Space focuses on Gaelic games.

In collaboration with Tourism Ireland, the CCI is delighted to present this selection of striking photographs from the best-selling book series Old Ireland in Colour. Working with archival images from museum and library collections, academics John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley have used new colourisation techniques. From the upheaval of the revolutionary period to the simple beauty of rural scenes, these photographs brings to life Ireland’s 19th- and 20th-century history through landscapes, historical portraits and pictures of everyday life.

Installed in the CCI’s courtyard for Paris 2024, this new exhibition is commissioned in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Paris to mark the centenary of Ireland’s entry onto the sporting stage as an independent nation. Researched and presented by historian Mark Duncan, this fascinating insight into the interaction of sports with international issues such as politics, commerce, race and identity, frames Ireland’s particular Olympic and Paralympic journey.
