Niwel Tsumbu grew up in Kinshasa surrounded by Congolese music. At the age of 17, a teacher introduced him to jazz. Since then, his musical style has absorbed many influences, such as folk or blues music. Based in Ireland for twenty years now, he is now one of the most popular guitarists in the country and has reached international fame. He is currently touring the world with the folk-blues singer Rhiannon Giddens, multi-Grammy nominee. His very first solo recording, Milimo, will be released this autumn by the independent label Diatribe Records. An album hailed as diverse and thrilling in which jazz and African sounds come together, along with touches of traditional and flamenco music. Praised for his prodigious guitar skills, his sophisticated sense of rhythm and his thrilling improvisations, Niwel’s performance tonight promises to be electrifying.
