Jewish and Arabic cultures flourished side by side in medieval Spain. Their songs and ballads were taken with them by the Jews who settled in North Africa, Turkey, the Balkans and this music of loss and longing absorbed local influences to produce the rich variety of Sephardic music we know today. Judith Mok, herself partly of Sephardic descent, and her Dublin-based ensemble of world class musicians will give two concerts bringing together widely different styles of music from Jewish and Islamic cultures.
