Versatility and perceptiveness characterise Mark Clare’s artistic practice. An inquisitive nomad, he embraces a variety of media including video, animation, performance and sculpture in response to the setting in which he finds himself. For this exhibition, he will exhibit new work as well as installing two pieces in the courtyard of the CCI - the interactive Ping Pong Diplomacy which comments on the flux of geo-politics and La Fontaine du Réalisme which wonderfully displays his ability to make use of whatever materials he finds ready-to-hand and allude to a plurality of historical references and artistic philosophies. In the case of La Fontaine, these include allusions to art as dazzling commodity, to models of applied, socially useful art, to the representational commitments of Realism and to an idea of subjective artistic freedom, unfettered by social convention or responsibility.
