Originally a 1941 novel in Irish, An Béal Bocht (The Poor Mouth) has been adapted for the stage in French and is directed by accomplished Irish actress and director Clara Simpson. Flann O’Brien’s caustic wit characterises this not unkind parody of Gaeltacht autobiographies. Bónapárt Ó Cúnasa, a resident of Corca Dhorcha, tells the story of his life and his loves while lamenting an impoverished post-famine Ireland. His highly entertaining performance is punctuated by traditional ballads played by the barman/musician.

Created by La Face Nord Cie, with the support of Théâtre des Marronniers (Lyon) as well as the Irish –Celt association and Maison des comédiens du Théâtre National Populaire (Villeurbanne).
