2015 sees the launch of CCI’s Traditional Singers’ Club, the Gaulín, paying reverence to Ireland’s foremost and longest standing singers’ club, An Goilín. The Club is a meeting place and platform for people who enjoy singing and listening to traditional song. While Club members are welcome to sing, they are also welcome to just listen. The Club creates a friendly and supportive space in which the focus is entirely on the voice and the person performing. While there will be an emphasis on Irish song, any traditional song is valued.

Each month sees a new guest traditional singer play ‘fear a’ ti’ (host).

Our third installment of the Gaulín has humour as its theme for the evening. Jean O’Sullivan has recorded two collections of traditional children’s songs. She has sung with Irish bands, blues bands and a gospel group and also performs songs from the work of James Joyce. Derry O’Sullivan is from Bantry, Co. Cork. His poetry in Irish has won four Oireachtas awards, the Seán Ó Ríordáin Prize and the Times/Stephen Spender Prize, open to all languages and periods. Derry also publishes poetry in English and French. A bilingual (Irish-English) collection will be published by Notre Dame University (USA) in 2015.
