Considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century and awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1995, Seamus Heaney made one of his final public appearances in the courtyard of the CCI in June 2013. In response to his reading of the poem The Blackbird of Glanmore, a blackbird began to sing from one of our trees. Thirteen years after his passing, we pay tribute to the poet alongside his family through the launch of the poetry collection, 100 poèmes, published by La Table Ronde, an intimate collection of works selected by the Heaney family and translated by Patrick Hersant. This wonderful anthology, timeless in its appeal, brings together some of his most celebrated and acclaimed verses while also offering readers the chance to discover lesser-known poems.

This evening will begin with a conversation featuring Catherine and Chris Heaney, Seamus Heaney’s children, moderated by the scholar and author Nicholas Allen. Actress, singer, and proud “girl from Derry” Bronagh Gallagher will then read a selection of poems in English, while French actress Sophie Bouilloux will read them in French. Musical interludes will be performed by singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, a member of the acclaimed supergroup The Gloaming and undoubtedly one of the finest sean-nós singers of his generation.

Combining words and music and bringing together a distinguished group of guests, this promises to be a tribute worthy of the great poet Seamus Heaney.

Presented as part of the Périphérie du Marché de la Poésie
