Combining words and music, this evening organised in association with Poetry Ireland and Literature Ireland marks the tenth anniversary of the death of the great Seamus Heaney. A few months ago, The Translations of Seamus Heaney was published by Faber - a remarkable collection compiling for the first time the translations made by the Nobel prize-winning poet. Translating both ancient texts and the writings of his contemporaries, Heaney had an extraordinary ability to get in tune with other writers and languages, and to bring their works to life in new ways. Not to mention his particular love of his mother tongue, Irish.

At this event, hosted by writer Niall MacMonagle, we hear a selection of poems read in their original language, with the translations interpreted by renowned actress Eleanor Methven; these readings are punctuated by musical interludes performed by the talented traditional folk duo Zoe Conway and John Mc Intyre.
