Eithne Jordan Paris Street III, 2005

This exhibition of new work by painter Eithne Jordan draws on her residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in 2005 and her experience of the city of Paris. Her exploration of landscape inhabited by the forms of the contemporary world has moved in this new work towards a study of the urban environment. Metro stations and city streets, tunnels, cars and road signs, are the elements she is working with. The source of light, which fascinates the artist, has changed from the natural to the artificial. The absence of the human presence gives these paintings an atmosphere of stillness and emptiness.

Eithne Jordan is a member of Aosdána and was recently elected an associate member of the Royal Hibernian Academy.
