Dónal Lunny (bouzouki, guitar), Pádraig Rynne (concertina), Sylvain Barou (whistles, uilleann pipes)
These three respected musicians have one thing in common: each of them has succeeded in taking his chosen instruments and music to places never heard before. Dónal Lunny, founding member of Planxty, the Bothy Band and Moving Hearts needs very little introduction. Considered to be one of the more influential people in the renaissance of Irish music in the last half century, Dónal has been playing Irish music for most of that time. He has been producing albums of Irish musicians and singers since the '70s and has written music for many films and theatre productions. Pádraig Rynne is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today being described by The Irish alphabet stew as "one of the freshest sounds in Irish music". Born in Co. Clare, Pádraig is a founding member of recently acclaimed Guidewires, which was founded in 2008 and played at the CCI in 2012. Fellow Guidewires member Sylvain Barou is seen as one of the most exciting flute players of his generation. As well as being a noted exponent of the music of his native Brittany, he has succeeded in developing as an Irish traditional musician.
