Irish-American artist Daniel Clarke has specially created the exhibition « going Home » for the Centre Culturel Irlandais. The works - large-scale canvasses, mixed media drawings and sculpture - explore the artist's experience as a second-generation Irish citizen born outside Ireland.
Using conventional symbolic material - harps, shamrocks - as well as historical, religious and personal references to Ireland, Clarke sifts through the visual footnotes of childhood that were passed on from parents and grandparents.
"The notion of what the place called 'Ireland' means to me, whether it is a reality or myth, is the subject matter for this body of work."
