A politically committed artist, Brian Maguire (1951) has focused on marginalized or disenfranchised groups since the 1970s and his involvement with human rights movements in Northern Ireland. He has worked in a number of prisons and hospitals in Ireland and abroad as well as with those that have fallen victim to the ravages of poverty, war and trafficking. He sees painting as an act of solidarity.

Tonight Brian will discuss his practice and questions arising from his current exhibition An Anatomy of Politics at Galerie Christophe Gaillard, in particular the importance of 'meeting, probing, listening, understanding and conveying the plight of' communities he spent time with in the USA (Arizona Series), Mexico (Nature Morte Series) and Syria (Aleppo Paintings).

Conversation chaired by Bill Shipsey with guest speakers Christophe Gaillard (Paris) and Fergus McCaffrey (New York, Tokyo, Saint Barthélémy).
