The rentrée at CCI will have a strong literary emphasis this year! We are delighted to welcome Colum McCann back to rue des Irlandais for an evening organised in partnership with Belfond publishers and the Montluc Résistance et Liberté prize. His latest book Apeirogon has become an international phenomenon and won numerous prizes* (see below) including the Montluc prize which is awarded each year to an author who investigates contemporary practices of resisting oppression. Through Apeirogon, the humanistic McCann celebrates the true story of a friendship between an Israeli, Rami, and a Palestinian, Bassam, who are both grieving the loss of their daughters and devote their lives to fighting for dialogue and peace. This Saturday afternoon, Colum discusses the different themes that move through his work as a writer, and the fiddler Colm Mac Con Iomaire, his friend and companion on a journey to the Holy Land two years ago with the Narrative 4 association, performs some of his best pieces… beautifully illustrating Colum’s words: "Music can be a form of resistance".
“A quite extraordinary novel. Colum McCann has found the form and voice to tell the most complex of stories, with an unexpected friendship between two men at its powerfully beating heart.” New York Times
Winner of the National Jewish Book Award
Named one of the Best Books of the Year by The Independent, The New York Public Library, Library Journal
*Grand Prix des Lectrices ELLE, Prix du Meilleur livre étranger and Prix Transfuge for the best English-language novel
