As a great admirer of James Joyce, the Swiss-based Dutch collector Leo. J.M. Koenders (†2011) invited and encouraged international artists through the years to make artists’ books with only one condition, the creation had to be inspired by Joyce’s Ulysses. Later on, this was broadened to include other works such as Finnegans
Wake
, Dubliners and Giacomo Joyce. This resulted in an outstanding collection of artists’ books and objects (all unicata), of which the CCI presents a representative and fascinating selection in its Old Library. The exhibition demonstrates the different and surprising angles and techniques chosen by the invited artists.
