Graduation Ceremony: Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge

Lillis O Laoire is a sean-nós singer from Gort A' Choirce, Co. Donegal, who teaches courses in Irish language, folklore and Celtic civilisation in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, NUI Galway. His book, On a Rock in the Middle of the Ocean: Songs and Singers in Tory Island was published in 2007. He co-wrote an award-winning study of the sean-nós singer Joe Heaney, Bright Star of the West (2011). During this evening’s graduation ceremony, Lillis Ó Laoire will give a short presentation about the songs of Donegal and Tory Island. He will choose some examples from the repertoire of Donegal song and practice these with the participants.
