Project Space #1
The CCI launches its winter season with the first phase of Project Space, on view until 25 February.
Artist Michael Hanna presents Calculated Error, a series of works documenting his planned mishaps that often uses himself as a subject of social or sensory experiments. He will also be developing his Crossing the Park project, a personal journey in which he transforms his football allegiances from Everton Football Club to their arch rivals Liverpool. This exploration of loyalty, tribalism, empathy and identity will be presented in the Project Space later in the spring. Alongside Michael Hanna, the silkscreens of well-known artist Michael Craig-Martin transform sports balls into aesthetic spherical motifs. And, screening from 25 to 31 January, Adrian Duncan's film Prosinečki is an experimental exploration of art, perfection, physical fragility and memory, conveyed through an ageing footballer recalling his victories and defeats. The exhibition also includes Adrian's first-ever drawings (Projections), as well as others made in situ with adhesive tape.
In keeping with tradition, we are also delighted to be able to showcase the talents of our artists-in-residence on the opening night. Morgana, one half of the duo Saint Sister, performs an electro-pop concert. Dominic Montague invites us to join him on his promenade audio-theatre experiences, Quartered: Belfast, A Love Story and Calling The Corners. And the duo FemmeBizarre (Kate Finegan and Jade O'Connor) perform theatrical readings and music.
Our Médiathèque has created a special sporting selection of Irish literature and cinema that focuses on sport in the arts. Browse the selection online and do take a look when you next visit the CCI.
