This workshop, entitled “Exploring Vocal Improvisation Through Irish Keening and Lamentation,” offers an exploration of vocal improvisation through Irish keening (caoineadh), an ancient tradition of lamentation. Using the voice, breath, vowels, ornamentation, and listening, participants are invited to explore their own vocal language and improvise together. The workshop is open to everyone; no specific musical experience is required.
