‘Mad’ Mary McArdle has returned home to Drogheda after a short spell in prison. She is to be maid-of-honour for her best friend and, annoyed by the assumption that she won’t have a date for the wedding, Mary joins a dating agency. A tough and tender story about friendship, first love and letting go of the glory days with a strong performance by Seána Kerslake in the title role.
Darren Thornton’s A Date for Mad Mary has won best picture at the Irish Film and Television Awards (Ifta) for film and TV drama.
