Tomi Ungerer, saute-frontières
(1931-2019) : langage des images, langage de l’enfance

The CCI is delighted to host the second day of this international colloquium looking at the work of artist and illustrator Tomi Ungerer. A self-professed « saute-frontières" or "hurdler over divides" , Tomi grew up speaking Alsatian, French and German, went on to spend many years in North America and the final four decades of his life in Ireland. A passionate collector of toys, he mixed and moved effortlessly between languages, audiences and conventions. His bold, unsettling books for children and the adults around them have made him a household name in France. This colloquim gathers researchers, artists and book specialists - 17 November at the BnF and 18 November at the CCI - who will pay homage to an artist whose work continues to be immensely influential.

Organised in partnership with the BnF - Centre national de la littérature pour la jeunesse, the Institut International Charles Perrault, the Musée Tomi Ungerer-Centre international de l’illustration and the universities of Caen Normandie and CY Cergy Paris, with the support of Afreloce
