Take a stroll around the Goethe-Institut this evening and meet authors from nearly twenty countries! For this year’s Nuit de la Littérature, the CCI has invited Ruth Gilligan to represent Ireland. Currently in residence in the CCI having won the Reader’s Prize at the Cognac European Literature Festival in 2024, she will present her latest book The Butchers which also garnered the 2021 RSL Ondaatje Prize. Set on the Irish border in 1996, with the ‘Mad Cow Disease’ crisis unfolding in the background, it features a group of eight men who travel around Ireland slaughtering cattle according to a set of ancient customs. A haunting and unforgettable thriller, ‘the clash between folklore and modern capitalism drives a compelling tale’. (The Guardian)

La Nuit de la Littérature is organised by the Forum des instituts culturels étrangers à Paris (FICEP).
