Dancing with Strangers: From Palestine to France

  • Thursday 16 April
  • From 6:30pm to 9pm
  • Free entry

On the occasion of the opening of Clare Langan’s new exhibition Earthbound, the CCI is hosting a dance performance that invites the public to participate in the experience of life in a war zone, through movement.

Instant Dissidence is an Ireland-based company directed by Rita Marcalo which brings together artists from diverse backgrounds, exploring multiple combinations. Through the company, Rita Marcalo invents new ways of conceiving and sharing artistic experiences with the public, while addressing contemporary creative challenges. Committed to social and environmental issues, the company champions the idea that dance and choreography can be catalysts for change. Its “artivists” work to strengthen the links between artistic creation and social awareness.

From 6:30pm to 8:30pm, Instant Dissidence will present its one-on-one participatory performance (10 minutes), Dancing with Strangers: From Palestine to France, performed by Rita Marcalo and Palestinian dancer Bashar al-Belbeisi.
From 7pm to 9pm, the film Dancing with Strangers: From Palestine to Ireland, directed by Irish filmmaker Gavin FitzGerald, will be screened on loop.

Co-produced by Instant Dissidence (Ireland) and Octo Productions (Portugal), with additional funding from the Irish Network Against Racism and further support from the Centre Culturel Irlandais.

Donations for the Gaza-based choreographers accepted.
