Acclaimed poet and essayist Doireann Ní Ghríofa was thrust into the international literary limelight in 2020 with the publication of her debut novel A Ghost in the Throat. Applauded by numerous critics including those writing for the New York Times or the Guardian, it went on to win Irish Book of the Year. Clouded Reveries/Aisling Trí Néallaibh is an intimate exploration of Ní Ghríofa’s world and creative process. It is a documentary about memories, motherhood and the mysterious nature of creativity. Captured through performances of her own work and in-depth interviews, the film reveals Ní Ghríofa’s creative impulses and journeys with her to the heart of her inspiration, her home place in Co. Clare.

Director Ciara Nic Chormaic (Skin+Soul) employs a style of great simplicity, allowing Ní Ghríofa to fill every frame with her presence as she revisits key places from her present and her past.
