Nine-year old Cáit has learnt to hide in plain sight from those around her, quietly struggling at school and at home. As summer arrives, she is sent to live with distant relatives. Slowly, in the care of the Kinsellas, Cáit blossoms and discovers a new way of living. But in a house where affection grows and there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth.
Nearly completely filmed in the Irish language, this delicate adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novella ‘Foster’ is director Colm Bairéad’s first feature. A work of small moments and details, anchored by Catherine Clinch’s remarkable performance as the titular quiet girl, this is a film of pure artistry. It has already won over the hearts of filmgoers and jurys worldwide and is currently nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2023 Oscars.
